The Lake Cumberland Chorus (LCC), under the direction of John Neikirk, will resume rehearsals for its spring season on Monday, February 27th at 6:30 p.m. in Giddens Hall at the Carnegie Community Arts Center. The choir will meet each Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a performance scheduled for May.

Sponsored by the McNeil Music Center, LCC hopes to more solidly establish itself as a top-notch choir for the entire region, says Neikirk. “The McNeil Music Center has given us a place to rehearse and backup support to keep a community choir like this going,” Neikirk said. “Their mission and our mission really mesh well. We both want to see individuals of all ages enjoying their love of music. For the choir that means we want folks who may have not sung in a choir in years. So if you’re a little rusty, no problem. We’ll work with you.”

Neikirk says that LCC is an “open” choir, meaning that there is no audition and individuals can join anytime through the end of March. Conducting his seventh season, Neikirk notes that many current members have no previous formal choral background but often find that with a little enthusiasm and commitment, they are able to learn their parts easily and experience performing with a great choir as well as make new friends.

Rehearsals will include award-winning current, traditional, sacred and secular choral selections. The location, date and time of the spring performance will be announced later.

The Monday rehearsals are at the Carnegie Community Arts Center, 107 N. Main Street. Walk-ins are very welcome.
