The Lake Cumberland Chorus (LCC), under the direction of John Neikirk, will resume rehearsals for its fall/winter season on Monday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. in Giddens Hall at the Carnegie Community Arts Center. The choir will meet each Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. with two performances scheduled for December.
Partnering this year with McNeil Music Center (formerly McNeil Voice Studio), LCC hopes to more solidly establish itself as a top-notch choir for the entire region, says Neikirk. “We have a wonderful group of choral members, who have been very loyal to us over the years,” Neikirk said. “But we also want to reach out to the Southeast Kentucky region and find new members who would love the experience of singing in a choir.”
Neikirk says that LCC is an “open” choir, meaning that there is no audition or membership fee, and individuals can joinanytime through the end of October. Singers that may be a little rusty or that may never have participated in a choral group are especially encouraged to give the choir a try. Conducting his seventh semi-annual season, Neikirk notes that many current members have no previous formal choral background but often find that with a little enthusiasm and commitment, they are able to learn their parts easily and experience performing with a great choir as well as make new friends.
Rehearsals will include award-winning current, traditional, sacred and secular choral selections.
By partnering with McNeil Music Center, LCC has been invited to perform two selections at the Winter Music Showcase, December 10th in Giddens Hall at the Carnegie Community Arts Center. “We are so excited to have this partnership opportunity,” said Maria McNeil, owner of the McNeil Music Center. “Our mission is to educate and support musicians of all ages from the surrounding region by providing education and performance opportunities in a variety of musical genres. I can’t think of a better way to make our mission come to life than by partnering with (LCC) and helping them achieve their goals in performance.”
LCC also will be performing its own winter concert on December 23rd; time and location will be announced later.
The Monday rehearsals are at the Carnegie Community Arts Center, 107 N. Main Street. Walk-ins are very welcome.
